Although the political landscape may not resemble a scene from William Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night,” it didn’t deter African National Congress (ANC) president Cyril Ramaphosa from assuming the role of a DJ to rally support for his party during the elections.

With just under a month remaining until South Africans head to the polls for the national and provincial elections on 29 May, political parties have been traversing the nation, endeavouring to attract voters to their cause.

These elections are anticipated to be the most fiercely contested polls in the country since the inception of democracy three decades ago.

While Ramaphosa is president at the Union Buildings, a symbol of governance in South Africa, he has intensified his efforts to connect with and win over the younger generation and the youth.

As part of his campaign journey, Ramaphosa visited Rands Cape Town in Khayelitsha, where he embraced a new role for the day.

The president tried his hand at being a DJ, blending a track titled “Vote ANC,” with ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula capturing Ramaphosa’s DJ session and sharing it on social media.

“UYABUYA Vol. 2 (Produced by DJ Ramza). Dropping 29 May 2024 at your local voting station”, wrote @MbalulaFikile

Athi Geleba, the Head of Digital Communications in the Presidency, also shared the video clip.

“The DJ Ramzin residency kicks off in CPT this weekend. Direct message for bookings”, wrote @AthiGeleba.

Former Deputy President David Mabuza Joins ANC Campaign in Tshwane

Over the past few weeks, prominent ANC figures such as Thabo Mbeki, Kgalema Motlanthe, and Mathews Phosa have actively advocated for the party’s agenda.

Former ANC deputy president David Mabuza has become the latest high-ranking member of the party to participate in its campaign activities leading up to the elections.

On Sunday, Mabuza spearheaded the party’s election campaign in Olievenhoutbosch, located south of Pretoria.

According to Eyewitness News, following the ANC’s elective conference in December 2022, during which Mabuza opted not to seek a nomination for a second term, he has maintained a relatively low public profile.

Nevertheless, he has now accepted the party’s invitation to participate in its campaign activities leading up to what is being characterised as the most fiercely contested election.

A resident of Olievenhoutbosch expressed satisfaction at seeing the former deputy president yet emphasised the community’s desire for tangible improvements.

“We are glad to see that the ANC is here. I just hope they fulfill their promises after the elections.”

Later on Sunday, Mabuza was scheduled to visit the Itireleng informal settlement.
