BILLY VUNIPOLA ARRESTED AND TASERED TWICE AFTER ‘VIOLENT’ PUB INCIDENT WHERE HE THREATENED CUSTOMERS AND STAFF

England and Saracens forward Billy Vunipola has been arrested after a violent incident at a pub in Majorca where he threatened customers and staff.

The 31-year-old needed to be tasered twice to subdue him after police rushed to a bar in Palma at 4.30 am on Sunday following calls from security staff.

Local reports said Vunipola had taken off his shirt and was threatening customers and employees with bottles and chairs.

Vunipola featured in Saracens’ 15-12 victory over Bath on Friday evening before taking a break in Spain, where the events unfolded.

The police’s first taser shot apparently had little effect on the England forward, who weighs 20 stone, before they fired a second shot before arresting him.

It is also reported that he challenged officers before they managed to handcuff him.

Vunipola was escorted to a nearby hospital, where he was supposedly sedated and strapped to his bed.

He was kept under guard until he appeared in court later on Sunday and has been released on bail pending an investigation.

Police and court officials have not yet made any official comment but Saracens have today put out a statement on social media.

“Saracens is aware of an incident involving Billy Vunipola in Majorca,” it read.

“We will of course deal with this incident internally, and will not make any further comment until then.”

Vunipola’s future

The back-rower, who represented England at the 2023 Rugby World Cup, is set to end his international career this season ahead of a reported move to France.

He has been linked with French club Montpellier with his older brother Mako Vunipola set to join the Top 14 side.

Vunipola was born in Australia to Tongan parents and moved to the UK with his parents at a young age.

He and his brother both qualified to represent England through residency, and Billy has since played 75 times for the Red Rose.

A move to Montpellier would make him ineligible to continue representing England beyond this season but he was already omitted from Steve Borthwick’s squad earlier this year.
